“Sunless Shadows” to be screened at DMZ Docs

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian documentary “Sunless Shadows” directed by Mehrdad Oskouei will be screened at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in South Korea.

The DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, as one of leading international documentary film festivals in Asia, aims to provide opportunities for growing Korean and Asian documentary filmmakers to have a field that cineastes and audience together celebrate the festival through documentaries promoting peace, life and communication.

The 12th edition of DMZ International Documentary Film Festival will be held September 17-24 in Goyang near the Korean Demilitarized Zone.

“Sunless Shadows” is about an Iranian juvenile detention center in which adolescent girls serve sentences for the crime of murdering fathers, husbands or male family members. The all-female prison is also a shelter from an aggressively male-dominated society. Through frank conversations and playful interactions, the girls open up about the consequences of, and sometimes the reasons for, their action.

The documentary has already won awards such as the best director award at International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam and honorable mention at Big Sky film festival in the US.

Iranian documentary “The Unseen” directed by Behzad Nalbandi will also vie at the Asian Competition section of the 12th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in South Korea.
