Iran, Iraq need to boost cooperation, peace, security: Interior Minister

Tehran (ISNA) – Iran’s Interior Minister, Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli held a phone conversation with its Iraqi counterpart Othman Al-Ghanimi, stressing that development, security and peace should be strengthened for the two nations.

During the phone conversation, Rahmani-Fazli said, “Iran and Iraq can cooperate in various fields including fighting against terrorism, organized crime, and arms and drug trafficking”.

He further noted that the police of the two countries can collaborate to maintain security of borders.

The Iranian top diplomat invited the Iraqi minister to visit Iran, expressing the hope that at the upcoming meeting the two sides would ink the security MoU that had been prepared.

Rahmani-Fazli also expressed Iran’s readiness to share its experiences in the field of fighting the coronavirous.

Othman Al-Ghanimi, for his part, said that the two states can cooperate in security, political, economic, and health areas.

“Security between the two countries is largely established and the two sides shouldn’t allow their lands to be used against the neighboring states,” he added.
