IPU Assembly opportunity for regional co-op, negotiations: Larijani

Tehran (ISNA) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Ali Larijani called the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly an opportunity for negotiations over regional issues and bilateral cooperation.

Larijani left Tehran for Belgrade on Sunday to attend the 141st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly. A number of Iranian members of parliament are accompanying Larijani to the meeting.

Before leaving Tehran, he said, “IPU Assembly is an opportunity to sit with other parliament speakers and discuss regional and international issues as well as bilateral cooperation in the field of expanding negotiations and economic cooperation”.

Mentioning that his trip to Serbia has two parts, Larijani explained, “One of these parts includes delivering speech to the IPU Assembly and holding talks with my counterparts, and the other part is about bilateral parliamentary cooperation between Iran and Serbia”.

“The Inter-Parliamentary Union is a global inter-parliamentary institution and it was the first permanent forum for political multilateral negotiations,” he added.

The IPU is the global organization of national parliaments promoting democratic governance, institutions and values and working with parliaments and parliamentarians to articulate and respond to the needs and aspirations of the people.
