Zarif dismisses biological assassination of Takht-Ravanchi

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif explained the latest condition of Iran’s ambassador to UN, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, dismissing the speculation on biological assassination of the envoy.

“Majid Takht-Ravanchi was diagnosed with cancer after taking the office at the UN in Ney York. He had been unaware of his disease in Iran,” he said.

“He would have received treatment in Iran if we diagnosed his cancer before leaving for New York but he was diagnosed with cancer in US. His doctor insisted on an emergency operation,” Zarif added.

“Given his doctor’s diagnosis, the operation took place in New York. Takht-Ravanchi is now undergoing chemotherapy,” the top diplomat went on to say.

About the speculation that Takht-Ravanchi may have been the target of a biological assassination attempt, Zarif reject the story, saying, “The ambassador is now hospitalized in New York, receiving treatment”.
