UK to continue cooperation with Iran to reduce tensions: ambassador to Tehran

رابرت مک‌ایر

Tehran (ISNA) – British ambassador to Tehran, Rob Macaire said British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab has stressed that he will continue to cooperate with Iran to reduce tensions and support Iran’s nuclear deal, but mentioned that UK has joined to US-designed coalition in the Persian Gulf.

Pointing to the news of UK’s decision to join US maritime coalition in the Persian Gulf, Macaire tweeted, “UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs has insisted that he will continue cooperation with Iran to reduce tensions and support the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)”.

“London’s approach toward Iran has not changed” he added.

Announcing that UK will joint US coalition in the Persian Gulf, Raab claimed in the statement on Monday, “It is vital to secure the freedom for all international shipping to navigate the Strait of Hormuz without delay, given the increased threat”.

“Our approach to Iran hasn’t changed,” Raab said. “We remain committed to working with Iran and our international partners to de-escalate the situation and maintain the nuclear deal.”
