Iran, Iraq willing to improve bilateral defense cooperation

Tehran (ISNA) – Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Alireza Sabahi Fard held a meeting with Iraqi deputy Commander of Army Major General Tariq Abbas Ibrahim Abdul Hussain on Sunday.

During the meeting, Sabahi Fard said, “Iran and Iraq has many reasons and common grounds to unite and consolidate Islamic power in the region”.

Mentioning the key areas of air defense cooperation between Iran and Iraq, the commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base said, “We are ready to create expert committees for all areas in order to establish and improve bilateral cooperation”.

The Iraqi military official, for his part, said, “Iran and Iraq are in a row in terms of religious communalities and common enemies”.

Pointing to Iran’s considerable capabilities in designing and producing air defense systems, as well as providing related trainings, Major General Tariq said, “Given the previous visits by Iraqi military delegations, we urge cooperation with Iranian air defense experts in production, training and technical support areas”.
