Iran’s ministries of defense, roads to produce 44 marine vessels

Tehran (ISNA) – Iran’s ministries of Defense and Roads and Urban Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding for producing 44 marine vessels in 9 brigades on Sunday, within implementation of a national plan to advance capacity of production and repair of marine vessels.

Iran’s Defense Minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami and Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mohammad Eslami signed the cooperation document in the building of defense ministry’s Marine Industries Organization.

During the meeting, General Hatami said, “The Memorandum of Understanding will lead to a great step in cutting our dependence on foreign countries in supplying operational demands of Ports and Maritime Organization by using our capacities in marine industries”.

Under the cooperation document, the Defense Ministry will manufacture various types of vessels with civil application, including rescue and relief vessels, dredging ships, fireboats, marine pollution skimmers, as well as passenger boats for promoting the tourism industry.

The Memorandum of Understanding follows the purpose of advancing domestic capability, localizing the provision of needs in shipbuilding, creating job opportunities and reducing outflow of foreign currency, as well as avoiding marine accidents.
