Rescue operation is underway in affected areas by earthquake: Iran’s interior minister

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian interior minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli announced that rescue teams were deployed in the affected areas by a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck the western Iran and desert hospitals were established in the regions.

On the sideline of a meeting of Iran’s National Disaster Management Organization, Rahmani Fazli said, “Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at the first moments of the earthquake issued orders for convening the organization meeting and we made all our efforts to mobilize all possibilities for providing assistance to the affected people and announced the state of emergency in the neighboring provinces of Kermanshah province”.

“Electricity was cut off in some affected areas but now 70 percent of them are connected. The Iranian armed forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Red Crescent and ministries of health and energy have been deployed in the regions to help the emergency services,” he added.
