Iran’s Aras Free Trade-Industrial Zone

Tehran (ISNA) – Aras Free Trade-Industrial Zone is located in Jolfa City of East Azerbaijan province, neighboring Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

According to the decree of Iran’s Parliament on August 24, 2003, Aras Free Trade-Industrial Zone was established in order to accelerate the economic growth of the region.

Other goals of establishing the Free Trade-Industrial Zone were accelerating infrastructure projects, investment, job creation, active presence in world markets and importing and exporting industrial goods.

Aras Free Trade-Industrial Zone is the second developing Free Trade-Industrial Zone in Iran after Kish Free Zone Organization.

The Free Trade-Industrial Zone of East Azerbaijan Province features a special geostrategic position as well as accessing to global markets for investment which links Iran’s economy to international markets, especially Asian countries.

Aras Free Trade-Industrial Zone not only is an important economic region in Iran, but also an international tourist spot because of mild climate, mineral water springs and many cultural and historical attractions. There is a waterfall in this region which has been named after the watermill. Local people call it “Asiyab Kharabe Waterfall” which means the waterfall of the wrecked watermill.
