Putin’s message for Iran’s Supreme Leader delivered to Velayati

Tehran (ISNA) – Russian ambassador to Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan met with senior advisor to the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati and delivered a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin for Iran Supreme Leader.

The letter was the response of Russian president to Ayatollah Khamenei’s message that was taken to Moscow by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on February 8.

During the meeting, Velayati described Iran and Russia as important friends and sustainable neighbors and said, “Long history of commercial, economic, and cultural relations are main factor for continuation of strategic cooperation in different fields”.

“Relations between Iran and Russia are strategic and based on mutual respect,” he stressed.

Referring to some of regional and international developments, Velayati said, “Regional relations and development led to further cooperation between Tehran and Moscow and the visits of officials from the two countries is important in the process of relations and strengthening interactions”.

He added that an example of the cooperation was helping resolve the humanitarian crisis in Syria and Armenia-Azerbaijan dispute over Karabakh.

Levan Dzhagaryan, for his part, said, “Strengthening mutual relations between Iran and Russia has helped boost cooperation and that Moscow and Tehran have taken effective steps for upgrading their ties”.

During the meeting, the officials also stressed the expansion of relations in defense, oil, nuclear, industrial, agricultural, and trade fields and reviewed the latest regional and international developments.
