Zarif says Iran has proposals for six-party cooperation in Caucasus region

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif announced on Tuesday that Iran has proposals for six-party cooperation in Caucasus region and will follow them up during the regional visit to Azerbaijan, Russia, Armenia, Georgia and Turkey.

Upon his arrival to Moscow, Zarif told reporters, “Relations between Iran and Russia require regular contacts between the officials of the two countries and the coronavirus pandemic will not prevent us from making these contacts”.

Stressing that the visit to Moscow has some main goals, the top diplomat said, “One of the main aims of the visit is to expand bilateral and strategic relations between Tehran and Moscow and the second one is regional issues”.

Zarif emphasized that his travel to Azerbaijan, Russia, Armenia, Georgia and Turkey is taking place to upgrade cooperation among the six countries and coordination on other regional issues as well.

Zarif said that Iran attaches importance to multilateral cooperation in the region.

“The formation of union of six-party cooperation is the most important goal of the regional visit to the Caucasus and we will follow up our proposals in this regard during the regional tour,” he added.

Zarif stressed that he will confer with Russian officials on various issues including Karabakh situation, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen and the Persian Gulf situation.
