INIF, VPST bringing Iranian, Kenyan Technology-Based Firms (TBFs) together

Tehran (ISNA) - Iran is seeking to increase trade ties with Kenya through an innovation center that will provide a platform for exchanging ideas. "This center is the first of its kind in Africa and the biggest in the world established by Iran to transfer the technology acquired over the years."

Siavash Malekifar, Chief Development Officer of INIF, referred to the launching of Iran's most prominent and first innovation center in Kenya and said, "INIF is going to support a delegation of 31 firms in the fields of petrochemical, renewable energy, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and nanotechnology is set to interact and network with more than 70 Kenyan firms." Malekifar added, "Five Research & Technology Funds also will be present in Kenya."

Speaking in Nairobi ahead of the Iranian House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT), Iranian ambassador to Kenya, Jafar Barmaki said Kenya's bilateral trade ties are going to be rejuvenated under a new program bringing together Tech-based firms from both countries. "Kenya has the necessary infrastructure in place. Therefore, we can import Kenya fresh products and export fresh Iranian products to Kenya and East Africa for our countries' economic goods," he said.

Malekifar added: "Iran TBFs achievements and products will be exposed in Iran innovation center exhibition and in this line, INIF welcomes enhancement in Iran Kenyan mutual cooperation."

A delegation of Iranian officials from the Iran National Innovation Fund (INIF) and Vice Presidency for Science and Technology (VPST), and Iranian Tech-based firms will visit Kenya on January 27, 2021, for business meetings and bilateral talks with their Kenyan counterparts.
