Iran-Afghanistan strategic document to be finalized soon

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi announced that Iran-Afghanistan strategic document included five parts, four of which have been finalized and the single remaining part regarding security issues will be finalized soon.

Speaking on the sidelines of his visit to Kabul, Araghchi stressed the need to hold intensive consultations on security issues and said, “Iran and Afghanistan are two neighbors which have common interests and concerns”.

“Afghanistan has involved several problems and Iranian government and people always stand by people and government of Afghanistan,” he added.

“It shows that peace and stability in Afghanistan are the same as those in Iran and Afghan people’s welfare and progress are directly related to the Iranians and it is a strategic reality,” Araghchi went on to say.

“I think all Afghans acknowledge that their sufferings have been created by interference of foreign countries and Iran has caused no damage to Afghanistan,” the official stated.

“The purpose of my visit to Kabul is to negotiate about the Iran-Aghjanistan strategic document and I hope this round of talks in Kabul will be the final round, as good progress has been made on this document,” he noted.

He reiterated that comprehensive strategic document draws prospect of Iran-Afghanistan long-term relations, focuses on principles and play major role in reinforcing relations.

“Doha talks are related to Afghanistan peace and security and no country should interfere in this issue. Normally negotiations should be held in Afghanistan and of course just the Afghans have the right to decide about national security,” Araghchi emphasized.
