Rouhani says industry ministry has authority to implement export-import policies to create currency discipline

Tehran (ISNA) - Emphasizing the importance and key role of private sector producers and traders in the country's economy and their privileged position during sanctions, Iran’s President said, "Government policy is to strengthen and support companies that are at the forefront of countering sanctions and make efforts to supply the essentials and raw materials of production”.

Speaking on Sunday at the meeting of the Government’s Economic Coordination Board, Dr. Hassan Rouhani referred to currency fluctuations due to sanctions and restrictions due to the spread of coronavirus, and stated, "The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade is responsible for establishing discipline in the export and import of goods in the country, and is implementing the foreign exchange balance policies of the country with the utmost precision and transparency with the cooperation of the Central Bank”.

The President outlined the general policy of the government for supporting the private sector and the active participation of business executives and producers and emphasized, "The rules and regulations should be in the direction of supporting and encouraging exporters and importers, and provide incentives to those who have behaved lawfully and have fulfilled their obligations under the law”.

Dr. Rouhani also said, "In addition to encouraging and strengthening active exporters and importers who are committed to the country's trade policies, a small group who abuse these conditions with the aim of trading their export currency and do not return the currency given to them for export to the economic cycle of the country will be prosecuted and their activities will be limited within the framework of the same rules and policies with the coordination of the Chamber of Commerce”.
