Iran willing to cooperate in Syria's rebuilding

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian businessmen are willing to cooperate with Syrian businessmen and some industries can even invest in Syria, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday.

Parts of talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad were focused on increasing economic cooperation between the countries, he said.

Answering a question about Iran’s role in rebuilding Syria and its possible challenges in an interview with Syrian television, Larijani said, “Economic cooperation between Iran and Syria has begun since one or two years before. Iranian businessmen are willing to cooperate with their Syrian colleagues to expand economic ties and even some industries can invest in Syria”.

Iran and Syria have discussed ways of accelerating the processes, he said. “You can’t say there is no challenge in the path but necessary arrangements should be made”.

Pointing to the importance of cooperation between Iran and Syria, Larijani said, both governments should provide the essentials of the cooperation to facilitate it.

Mentioning Iran’s regional policy, he said, Iran urges regional countries to establish friendly ties with each other and solve their disagreements through negotiation.

At the head of a delegation, Larijani left Tehran for Damascus on Sunday and then arrived at Beirut last night.
