Us imposes sanctions on Iran’s ICT Minister

جهرمی

Tehran (ISNA) – Continuing hostile policy against Iran, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi.

The US imposed sanctions on Azari-Jahromi for his role in what it claimed as “widescale internet censorship” during the recent wave of foreign-backed riots that hit a number of cities as a result of fuel price hikes.

The US Treasury announced the move on its website on Friday.

Azari Jahromi has advanced Tehran’s policy of “internet censorship” while in office, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin claimed in a statement on Friday, Reuters reported.

“We are sanctioning Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for restricting internet access, including to popular messaging applications that help tens of millions of Iranians stay connected to each other and the outside world,” he said.
