Zarif stresses on Iran’s condition to return to JCPOA commitments

ظریف

Tehran (ISNA) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated that Iran is ready to fully implement its nuclear commitments within the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), if it benefits from the deal’s economic interests.

In his speech during the meeting of Astana club’s disarmament and non-proliferation panel in Kazakhstan, he noted that Iran doesn’t seek to have nuclear weapon.

Mentioning that normalizing economic relations with Iran is of the conditions of JCPOA, Zarif added, “We are ready to fully implement our nuclear commitments within the deal and show our goodwill, if we, even partially, benefit from economic interests of JCPOA”.

Iran has long blamed the Europeans for failing to provide the economic benefits it was meant to receive under the deal and has begun steps to reduce commitments, including producing more enriched uranium.

Last week Iran resumed enrichment at its Fordow nuclear facility.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and European parties to the deal - Britain, France and Germany - issued a statement on Monday urging Tehran to comply with the accord or face action which could include sanctions.

Iran says paragraph 36 of the deal allows it to reduce its commitments because other signatories are not complying.

Iran says it will further overstep the deal’s limits in January if Britain, France and Germany fail to shield its economy from U.S. actions against Tehran.
