Int. community needs multilateralism more than ever: Zarif

ظریف

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that international community needs multilateralism more than ever.

He made the remarks on Monday while addressing the international conference on "Unilateralism and International Law" that is underway in Allameh Tabatai University (ATU) in Teheran.

“Today, multilateralism has become a must for the human community, and the world cannot survive without taking multilateralism into consideration” he said.

"Multilateralism was created because no country in the world can solve its problems on its own," Zarif added.

"Zero-sum is not possible anymore. Multilateralism is there because there is no other way around this. No country can solve situations on its own," the top diplomat noted.

“US’ efforts to create a zero-sum game will lead to a game with a negative result. Washington has set fire to our region. If there is war, there isn't a winner or loser. There are two losers, one with a heavier loss and the other with less heavy one,” Zarif went on to say.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif voiced serious opposition to the recent Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Iran and said, “FATF’ decision is politically motivated”.

Although Iran is against the FATF decision, it makes sure to take all necessary measures to combat money laundering and financial support for terrorism with the objective of safeguarding its own national interests, he stressed.
