Iran supporting Syria’s territorial integrity: MP

نقوی حسینی

Tehran (ISNA) - Spokesman for Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Hossein Naghavi Hosseini emphasized that Islamic Republic supports Syria’s territorial integrity and believes that disputes can be solved through trilateral or quadruple meetings instead of military offensive and intervention.

In an interview with ISNA, Hossein Naghavi Hosseini mentioned the recent Turkey’s attack to northern Syria and said, “Iran’s main strategy is always to support the countries’ unity and not to interfere and invade their territories. We believe that everybody should respect the other countries’ territorial integrity”.

“In this regard, Iran’s advisory assistance to some of regional countries has been provided at their governments’ request,” he added.

“In the area of diplomacy and foreign policy, the Islamic Republic has always believed that disputes can be solved through negotiations, so there is no reason for military offensive and operation. Saudi Arabia has had similar experience in Yemen which now turned into a swamp for Riyadh. Currently, Saudis have come to conclusion that they should negotiate,” the official reminded.

“Disputes can be solved through trilateral or quadruple meetings. Military invasions only intensify the tensions and add to the problems of the region,” Hossein Naghavi Hosseini went on to say.

“The US paved the way for Turkey’s military offensive to northern Syria. Washington gave the green light, so we shouldn’t turn a blind eye to US’ betray,” he said.
