Matrix Rhythm Therapy; a modern remedial approach inspired from alpha rhythm of brain waves

Tehran (ISNA) - The human brain is made up of brain cells called neurons, which communicate with each other through electrical brain waves. The pattern of brain waves changes depending on one’s level of consciousness and cognitive processing. Brain activity is generally characterized by a combination of brain waves. Depending on what one is doing at the time, a particular brain wave will be dominant over the others. This balance is important: When one’s brainwaves are not balanced properly, that individual may experience both emotional and neuro-physical health concerns.

There are five different types of brain waves, ranging from low to high frequency:

•           Delta brain waves (0.5 to 3 Hz) are the slowest brain waves. They are generated in deep meditation and dreamless sleep. Healing and regeneration occur when the brain is in this state.

•           Theta waves (3 to 8 Hz) also occur in sleep and during relaxation. They are indicative of an inner focus, and dreams and vivid imagery occur in this state.

•           Alpha waves (8 to 12 Hz) occur during quiet, thoughtful times. Alpha waves indicate that the brain is in a resting state.

•           Beta waves (12 to 38 Hz) are the most common pattern in the normal waking state. They occur when one is alert and focused on problem solving.

•           Gamma brain waves (38 to 42 Hz) are the fastest and are associated with higher levels of consciousness.

Whereas the subject of this essay is concerning Matrix Rhythm Therapy that provides pulsations in the range of Alpha brain waves, I managed to discuss the relationship between Alpha Rhythm and health status of body and mind with Dr. Meenakchi Pandit, a proficient Physiotherapist in India who had obtained the position to attend the classes of Dr. Ulrich Randoll, the inventor of the device and the method of Matrix Rhythm Therapy.

Dr. Pandit, would you please explain what the peculiarities of Alpha Brain Waves are?

Alpha waves are one type of brain waves detected by electroencephalography (EEG) that were discovered by German neurologist Hans Berger. Alpha brain waves are the normal bursts of electrical activity from the cerebral cortex of a drowsy or inactive person, occurring at a frequency of 8 to 12 hertz. It is said to be a pattern of slow brain waves in normal persons at rest with closed eyes, thought by some to be associated with an alert but daydreaming mind. Alpha appears to bridge the conscious to the subconscious.

What are the benefits of being situated in the state of Alpha?

Alpha is the resting state for the brain. The beginning of physical and mental relaxation occurs during this wave length. As the body starts to relax, certain physiological changes occur, pulse rate lowers and muscular tension releases. Relaxation brings mind and body into balance, reduces fatigue, releases and expels toxins and revitalizes the entire system. Emotional sensations in the alpha state include a sense of wellbeing, pleasure and tranquility. This state will help you quiet your mind, boost your creativity, increase your happiness, raise confidence, awaken your inner-healing, improve your immunity, conquer diseases and obtain a better state of mental and physical health.

Are rhythmic pulsations just the characteristics of brain? What is the advantage of these rhythmic movements?

There is movement in our whole body as long as we are alive. This movement is happening in harmony or in rhythm. Because of this oscillatory movement it is possible for cells to get in fresh oxygen and nutrition and give away used waste products in extra cellular space called extra cellular matrix. This rhythm is disturbed because of various factors like infection, injury, toxins, allergy, chemical, electrical interference, psychological, emotional, stressful situations etc., causing accumulation of fluid, oedema, and swelling. Reduced oxygen supply in cells suffocates and contracts the tissue, what we see as stiffness and feel as Pain. Small initial complaint like pain and stiffness is the first sign of this change in rhythm. If not treated it becomes a serious problem.

I observed you were holding classes regarding 'Matrix Rhythm Therapy' for Iranian Physiotherapists. Would you describe the basis of this method of treatment?

Matrix Rhythm Therapy is developed by Dr. Ulrich Randoll in Germany. This Therapy is based on his research in Cell Biology. Dr. Randoll confirmed that cells are rhythmically pulsating in frequency of 8-12 Hz in normal healthy condition. During unhealthy situation these movements are slowed down. Matrix Rhythm Therapy provides pulsations in same frequency to synchronize and reset the disturbed cell rhythm. That helps to re-establish extra cellular logistics that is removal of waste products and improve micro circulation of oxygenated blood, relaxes muscle and enhance process of regeneration and healing.

How does Matrix Rhythm Therapy help in relieving bone, joints, nerve and muscular pain?

Our body consists 45% of skeletal muscles. This is the hugest organ of our body. According to Dr. Randoll, muscles are the processors of our body. When these muscles become stiff, the support becomes uneven. Matrix Rhythm Therapy relaxes the muscles and provides an environment for normal shape of the body.

What does one feel during the therapy?

You get relaxing pulsating oscillations. There is no light, rays, heat etc. During therapy you feel that your muscles are becoming soft and supple. Your stiffness is getting reduced; there is significant reduction in Pain and improved range of movement.

How many sessions are required for complete relief?

It is not a medicine with fixed dosage. The total number of sessions required for complete relief depends on your health condition. Matrix Rhythm Therapy initiates the natural healing process of your body. You yourself will experience reduction in your pain and improvement in range of movements after a therapy session and you can plan your next sessions with your therapist.

Is the effect permanent?

Once you start with the therapy sessions, the process of regeneration and healing enhances. Once the pain is reduced, it is combined with few exercises which will help maintaining the effect of the therapy. Hence the effect of the treatment is long lasting.

How about the safety of the therapy? Is the therapy safe?

Matrix Rhythm therapy delivers the physiological rhythmic Pulsations. It is a very safe therapy for all age groups, Safe for individuals with Diabetes, Hypertension and safe during pregnancy. Matrix Rhythm therapy is safe even with orthopaedic implants in the body. Special Nonmagnetic applicator is used for the patients with heart pace maker.

What are the indications of Matrix Rhythm Therapy?

Matrix Rhythm Therapy has proven its value in all illness conditions which are caused by disturbances in the microcirculation. Matrix Rhythm Therapy applies to all chronic illnesses which derive from a disturbance in rhythm based process of nervous systems, vascular system and the musculoskeletal system. The great success of therapy is seen in cases of complications result in from over exertion, injuries, trauma, and surgical interventions.

In what conditions can Matrix Rhythm Therapy be useful as a Physiotherapy modality?

Matrix Rhythm Therapy helps in various acute and chronic conditions with pain and restricted mobility. With its holistic approach, Matrix Rhythm Therapy is applied in the following cases:

         Reduction of swelling

         Improvement of elasticity

         Regulation of local or systemic muscular hypertension

         Improvement of reduced joint mobility

         Pain management for acute or chronic conditions

         Acceleration of functional and structural nerve regeneration

         Acceleration of regeneration during illnesses of a chronic degenerative nature

         Restoration of function of the fine tissue vessels in Cutis and subcutaneous layers

Do you have any other comment about rhythm therapy?

Life as a process is itself rhythmically and dynamically stabilized. In humans we can recognize a variety of life processes that are rhythmic in character. For instance, breathing, heartbeat, nerve impulses etc. Matrix Rhythm Therapy is in fact one of the regulative therapies consistent with nature, for example according to the naturopathic system that I absolutely recommend to every one affected by any physical or psychic disorder.

Thank you very much Dr. Pandit for answering my questions patiently.
