Iran’s Rouhani, Japan’s Abe to meet at U.N. General Assembly

Tehran (ISNA) – Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe and Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani are planning to meet in late September at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a Japanese newspaper reported.

According to The Japan Times, Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe and Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani are planning to meet in late September at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The news came as Abe on Wednesday held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, stressing that Japan will be mindful of the intentions of Iran's officials and continue to work for regional stability.

At the outset of the meeting with Abe in Yokohama, Zarif said “Iran welcomes the Japanese government’s role (in trying) to ease tensions in the Middle East.”

He added, “Iran is not hoping tensions rise further in the Middle East”.
