“Finding Farideh” selected as Iran’s official submission to Oscars

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian documentary “Finding Farideh”, directed by Azadeh Mousavi and Kourosh Ataee has been chosen as Iran’s official submission to the 92nd Academy Awards in the best international film category.

The committee assigned to select  Iran’s submission to the Oscar 2020, selected the documentary among a shortlist of three films, including “Castle of Dreams” by Reza Mirkarimi and “6.5 Per Meter” by Saeid Roustaei.

"Finding Farideh" is about an Iranian woman named Farideh who has been abandoned 40 years ago at Imam Reza shrine and then adopted by a Dutch couple, now she travels to Iran to find her real family.

"Finding Farideh" has won the Special Prize of the Tataristan's President for "Humanity in Cinema" at Kazan International Muslim Film Festival-Russiaand the best documentary award at the 20th Iran's Cinema Celebration Academy Awards.

The documentary had been screened at various film festival such as 16th Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Iranian Film Festival of Cologne, Iranian Film Festival of Prague, International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Kiev, Iranian Film Festival in Zurich, Middle East NOW in Florence, Istanbul Film Festival, Kazan International Muslim Film Festival in Russia and recently invited to compete at 19th Flahertiana International Documentary Film Festival in Russia.

This is the first time that a documentary is Iranian cinema’s official submission to Oscars.

Iran won the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film in 2017 for ‘The Salesman’ and in 2012 for ‘A Separation’, both of which directed by acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.
