Tehran (ISNA) - Iran’s Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari said Iran imports $600 million of active ingredients each year and there are projects being launched which can domestically provide 80 to 90 percent of the materials.

“We have special plans to counter sanctions, especially in biotechnology area and soon we will dedicate a significant budget to pharmaceuticals and vaccines for livestock and poultry. We hope it can reduce our dependence to pharmaceutical imports in the area,” Sattari said on Sunday.

Mentioning that Iran imports $600 million of active ingredients for human pharmaceuticals each year, the official said, “The projects that are already being launched can domestically provide 80 to 90 percent of our needs”.
