Iran’s remedial steps under JCPOA reversible only through E3 compliance: Zarif

محمد جواد ظریف

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that E3 had no pretexts to avoid a firm political stance to preserve Iran nuclear deal and counter U.S unilateralism.

The remarks came as Iran on Sunday has officially announced the beginning of the second phase of reduction of its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, increasing the level of its uranium enrichment to a level beyond the 3.67% limit set by the accord.

“Today, Iran is taking its second round of remedial steps under Para 36 of the JCPOA. We reserve the right to continue to exercise legal remedies within JCPOA to protect our interests in the face of US #EconomicTerrorism. All such steps are reversible only through E3 compliance,” Zarif said in a series of tweets posted on his official Twitter account.

“Having failed to implement their obligations under JCPOA—incl after US withdrawal—EU/E3 should at minimum politically support Iran’s remedial measures under Para 36, incl at IAEA. E3 have no pretexts to avoid a firm political stance to preserve JCPOA & counter U.S unilateralism,” he said in another tweet.

In a press conference on Sunday, Iranian government spokesman, Ali Rabiei along with deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi announced the beginning of the second phase of reduction of its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal.

They also stressed that Iran will increase the level of its uranium enrichment to a level beyond the 3.67% limit set by the accord during the second phase.
