Iran urges Germany to revise suspension of Mahan flights

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi met with Regional General Director of German Foreign Ministry, Philipp Ackermann, during his visit to Tehran.

During the meeting, Ackermann insisted on the importance of Iran’s nuclear deal, known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an example of diplomatic triumph. Criticizing US’ unilateral withdrawal from the deal, Ackermann also expressed his country’s will to continue supporting JCPOA.

Mentioning the establishment of Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges, known as INSTEX, the German diplomat said, “Establishment of the mechanism has increased foreign companies’ willingness for cooperation with Iran. Implementation of INSTEX is Germany’s priority. ”

Mentioning the political stance of European sides in preserving JCPOA and Germany, France and UK’s cooperation in establishing INSTEX, Iranian deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi criticized the long process of establishment of the financial mechanism and said, “The recent step was just a part of European side’s commitments towards implementation of JCPOA. We expect Europeans to take more serious actions toward reaching the practical results of the nuclear deal and implementation of INSTEX, as soon as possible”.

“Political will for preserving JCPOA is not enough and Europe should take operational measures toward preserving the deal and pay its cost”, the Iranian diplomat added.

Expressing his dissatisfaction from Germany’s decision to suspend Mahan Air flights, he insisted on the need of revising the approach.

The two diplomats also discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.
