Fateh submarine to join Iran navy fleet with President attendance

Tehran (ISNA) - Fateh- class submarine will join Iran navy fleet in a ceremony attended by President Hassan Rouhani in coming days, Commander of the Islamic Republic Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi announced on Wednesday.

Mentioning to the latest condition of Fateh- class submarine, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said, “I got into the submarine yesterday to see the latest condition of it and I can say that the submarine will join Iran navy fleet in a ceremony attended by President Hassan Rouhani in coming days”.

The indigenous 527-ton Fateh-class submarine is among semi-heavy submarines in Iran. It can operate in more than 200 meters below the sea surface which it could be increased to 250 meters for 35 days.

Fateh submarine has underwater speed of 11 knots (20.35 km/h) and is capable of travelling submerged at 14 knots (25.9km/h ).

The submarine is armed with four 533 mm torpedoes. It has the ability to carry eight sea mines and also has two reserve torpedoes.
