Iranian President to depart for Sochi on Thursday

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani will depart for Sochi on Thursday at the official invitation of Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin to attend the trilateral meeting of the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey on February 14.

Deputy head for communications and information at the Iranian presidential office, Parviz Esmaeili said, “During the one-day Sochi meeting, the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey will discuss the joint fight against regional terrorism, restoration of peace and stability in Syria, return of displaced persons to the country and political stability there”.

He added that president Rouhani will also hold bilateral meetings with the Turkish and Russian presidents.

The Iranian president will be accompanied by a high-level political delegation, including some ministers, Esmaeili said.

Russia, Turkey and Iran are guarantors of a cease-fire deal in Syria and have been mediating a peace process for the Syrian crisis since 2016.

At the fourth three-party meeting of the heads of states-guarantors of the Astana Summit, Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hassan Rouhani will concentrate on the long-term settlement of the Syrian crisis. The three leaders will also discuss further joint steps toward long-term normalization of the situation in Syria as well as the projects and coordination on the international arena.
