Araqchi presents report on Iran-Taliban latest talks to Afghan President


Tehran (ISNA) – Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani received visiting Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Abbas Araqchi on Saturday.

President's Press Office said in a statement that President Ashraf Ghani met Araghchi at the Presidential Palace where they discussed government-to-government relations, Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process and ways to better use Chabahar Port.

In this meeting, Iran's deputy foreign minister briefed President Ghani on recent talks between Iranian and Taliban officials in Tehran and reiterated his government’s commitment to a peace process which is led and owned by Afghans.

Reports indicate that Araghchi held talks with Taliban in Tehran last week. 

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qassemi quoted by ISNA announced that an Afghan Taliban delegation held talks with Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs in Tehran last Sunday.
