3 Iranian films to attend Palm Springs

Tehran (ISNA) - Palm Springs International Film Festival announced its list, naming three Iranian films as participants.

The American festival will host 223 films from 78 countries, including “Cold Sweat”, “Orange Days” and “A Separation” from Iran.

The festival is due to screen 70 films in World Cinema Now section, during which “Cold Sweat” directed by Soheil Beiraghi and “Orange Days” by Arash Lahooti will represent Iran’s cinema.

Beiraghi’s film tells the story of Afrooz who’s the captain of the women's futsal team in Iran. After 11 years of hard work, her dream comes true: Iran is in the final of the Asian Nations Cup. But when she embarks for Malaysia, she learns that her husband forbids her to leave the territory. In Iran, a woman needs her husband's permission to travel.

“Orange Days” is Lahooti’s first feature film, telling a story about Aban, an overworked contractor in her forties, is dead set on outbidding her male competitor Kazem to harvest, with her crew of seasonal female workers, the largest orange orchard in the region.

The film has also won three awards in International Film festival Mannheim –Heidelberg, including Grand Newcomer Award.

The Iranian Oscar winner “A Separation” directed by Asghar Farhadi will also show up as one of the attendees in the festival’s Canon section which shows the most important films of world cinema. Farhadi’s film appears among movies by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Michael Haneke, Giuseppe Tornatore, Ang Lee, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Alain Resnais, Fatih Akin, Christopher Nolan, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Zhang Yimou and other great directors.

30th Palm Springs International Film Festival will be held January 3-14, 2019.
