Putin urges to do all possible to keep JCPOA in force

Tehran (ISNA) – Keeping Iran’s nuclear deal officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in force will help prevent a new wave of tension around the Iranian nuclear program and it is necessary to do everything possible for that, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"In order to prevent a new wave of tension around the Iranian nuclear program, everything possible should be done to keep the JCPOA in force," the Russian leader said at a meeting of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) group of countries on the sidelines of the G20 summit, TASS reported.

US President Donald Trump withdrew from 2015 multilateral nuclear deal with Iran on May 8, arguing it did too little to constrain Tehran’s nuclear program.

He imposed two rounds of sanctions on Iran, the second of which came into force earlier in November.

The other parties to the deal did not approve of the US pullout from the Iranian nuclear deal and remained committed to the previous accords.
