Choosing host country for SPV challenge for Europe: Zarif

ظرریف

Tehran (ISNA) – “Europeans are facing a challenge over determining a host country for Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)”, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif said, noting, Europe knows that continuation of the current situation is impossible without providing economic revenue through Iran’s nuclear deal.

Explaining the latest developments in establishing a financial mechanism between Iran and Europe known as SPV, Zarif said, “Europeans say they face some challenges in finding a host country for the mechanism”.

Mentioning that Iran stays in contact with European sides and discussions over the issue are still underway, the Iranian foreign minister said, “Actually some countries proposed as host states didn’t accept it and negotiations for determining the host for SPV continue”.

“Iran has always announced that it has various choices, so our decisions are based on national interests and the mechanism that is defined inside the country,” Zarif added, regarding the beginning of US’ unilateral sanctions against Iran and failing to start the financial mechanism proposed by Europe.

He also insisted, “EU and other members remaining in JCPOA know that continuation of the current situation is impossible without providing economic revenue through Iran’s nuclear deal”.

“Therefore deciding over the issue is up to Iranian officials,” he added.
