Iran’s Navy Commander to attend 10th anniversary of IONS in India

Tehran (ISNA) – Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi has traveled to India to attend the 10th anniversary of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS).

At the head of a delegation, Admiral Khanzadi arrived in New Delhi to attend the IONS symposium in Kochi Port in southwestern India on Monday.

Ahead of his departure, Admiral Khanzadi told reporters, “India’s Navy has held a special three-day summit with participation of 32 countries on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium”.

“The Indian Ocean region is one of the most important areas of the world and its security is very important, in this regard the IONS has been endeavoring for 10 years to increase environmental awareness and synergy among the countries of the region in order to achieve collective security,” he added.

“Iran’s Navy has been presiding over the summit for two years which nearly 6 months of that has passed. We have considered many programs in this period to take serious steps in achieving collective security in Indian Ocean,” the commander noted.

As rotational president of the summit, Admiral Khanzadi will deliver a speech about the future and security of the Indian Ocean region and hold meetings with Indian officials and 12 navy commanders of other countries who attend the summit.

The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium is a series of biennial meetings among the littoral states of the Indian Ocean region.
