نشست بهرام قاسمی سخنگوی وزارت امور خارجه

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qassemi announced that the generalities of the special purpose vehicle (SPV) would become clear very soon, stressing such new financial mechanisms are complicated and time-consuming.

Speaking in his weekly press conference on Monday, Qassemi said, “Negotiations over the SPV (a financial mechanism being devised by European officials to enable trade and banking services with Iran to continue despite the sanctions) are underway and as you know such new financial mechanism are complicated and time-consuming and need careful work”.

“Given the fact that Iran had already brought certain conditions forward, this mechanism should have been operational but we should be patient and I can say the generalities of the SPV will become clear very soon. I hope the mechanism will be operational as soon as possible,” he added.

About joining of Iran to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Qassemi said, “Our stand toward joining of Iran to FATF is constant and systematic and we believe that the bill regarding to FATF should be approved because joining of Iran to FATF is in the interest of Iranian nation”.

“In this regard, we believe that failure to join FATF can cause us many problems,” he added.

About re-imposition of US sanctions on Iran, the spokesman said, “It’s nothing new and that the country has gone through a wider range of sanctions in the past 40 years. Since US withdrawal from JCPOA, fresh round of sanctions has begun which indicates the US officials', especially president Donald Trump's, addiction to sanctions; therefore it is really hard for them to quit”.
