4 Iranian filmmakers to attend AFI

Tehran (ISNA) – Three feature and one short films directed by Iranian filmmakers will be screened in different categories of 32nd edition of American Film Institute (AFI).

Iranian short film “Umbra” directed by Saeed Jafarian will vie at competition section of 32nd edition of AFI.

American Film Institute (AFI) is considered as one of the greatest film festival in US and one of the important film festivals in the world approved by the Academy Awards.

The short film is about a young woman who realizes a few minutes after midnight that she is with no one. Worried, she goes out in the darkness of the streets.

“Umbra” has so far attended several international festivals including the Cine fondation section of the 71st Cannes Film Festival in France.

It has also been in competition at the 42nd edition of Toronto International Short Film Festival in Canada.

It will be qualified to attend the Short Films category for the annual Academy Awards, if it wins the grand award of short film competition in AFI.

In the World Cinema section of AFI, “3 Faces” directed by Jafar Panahi and “Pig” by Mani Haghighi will be screened and two-time Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi’s latest film “Everybody Knows” will be the guest of Special Screenings section of the event.

The 32nd edition of American Film Institute (AFI) will take place November 8-15 in Los Angeles, USA.
