Tehran (ISNA) – After the bitter attack on Iran’s consulate in Basra, Iranian diplomats have been deployed to a new suitable building and started their work, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said in an interview with ISNA.

On Friday, some Iraqi protesters attacked Iran’s consulate in Basra and set its building on fire, which brought up Iranian and Iraqi officials’ strong condemnation.

According to the report, the consulate’s former building was rented and the ownership of the building didn’t belong to Iran’s government.

Qassemi also declared, “Following the diplomatic efforts of Iranian Foreign Ministry and other related entities, such as Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization, the two countries finally agreed on using Iranian Rial to pay the costs of Iranian pilgrims’s visit to Iraq”.
