Taekwondo poomsae practitioner Marjan Salahshouri wins Iran 2nd silver

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian athlete Marjan Salahshouri won a silver medal in the women’s individual taekwondo poomsae competition at the 18th Asian Games on Sunday in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Salahshouri finished second with 8.47 points after she was outscored by an Indonesian competitor who gained 8.69.

Salahshouri reached semi-final after she had defeated competitors from Macau and Japan. In semi-final, Salahshouri defeated a Malaysian competitor and reached final game.  

Poomsae, a non-contact form of taekwondo, is performed by following systematic movements in sequence against an imaginary opponent or multiple opponents.

It consists of movements using the hands and feet to block, punch, strike, thrust and kick.

Another Iranian athlete, Koroush Bakhtiar had won Iran's first silver medal in the men’s individual taekwondo poomsae competition at the 18th Asian Games.
