نشست خبری بهرام قاسمی سخنگوی وزارت امور خارجه

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi has expressed deep regret over a powerful earthquake on Lombok that killed at least 91and injured dozens of people.

In a Monday statement, Qassemi also expressed sympathy with the nation and government of Indonesia and the families of the survivors of the incident.

The popular Indonesian resort island of Lombok, already under a weeklong state of emergency, was struck once again on Sunday by a powerful earthquake. The quake was also felt on the neighbouring island of Bali, one of Southeast Asia's leading destinations, where tourists ran onto the streets as the tremor struck.

The shallow 6.9-magnitude quake sent thousands of Lombok residents and tourists scrambling outdoors, where many spent the night as strong aftershocks including one of 5.3-magnitude continued to rattle the island.

The quake knocked out power in many areas, and parts of Lombok remained without electricity on Monday.

Najmul Akhyar, the head of North Lombok district, estimated that 80 percent of that region was damaged by the quake.
