Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian students shone at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) and International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), winning 4 medals at IChO and 5 medals at IPhO.

The 50th edition of IChO was held July 19 to 29 with the participation of some 300 students from 78 countries across the world and jointly hosted by Slovakia and Czech Republic.

During the event, Iranian students including Behzad Saiedi, Arshia Khademi, Mehdi Jafarzadeh and Mohammad Hassan Sharifnia claimed 4 silver medals.

IChO is an annual competition for the world’s most talented chemistry students at the secondary school level. Students are tested on their chemistry knowledge and skills in a five-hour laboratory practical and five-hour written theoretical examination that are held on separate days with the practical examination usually being before the theoretical examination.

Meanwhile, the 49th edition of IPhO was held July 21 to 29 in Portugal during which Iranian students including Hadi Azizi, Shervin Khalafi, Amirhossein Bariri gained silver medals while Arshia Afzal and Mobin Moradi won bronze medals.

The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is an annual competition in physics for secondary school students, aiming at promoting physics and the development of international contacts in physics education. It involves individual theoretical and experimental competitions in physics.
