Iran’s first reaction to Trump’s offer on negotiating with Tehran without preconditions

Iran’s first reaction to Trump’s offer on negotiating with Tehran without preconditions

Tehran (ISNA) – An advisor to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani responded to US President Donald Trump’s latest offer to negotiate with Tehran without preconditions.

Rouhani’s advisor, Hamid Aboutalebi tweeted in response to Trump that “Respecting the Iranian nation's rights, reducing hostilities and returning to the nuclear deal are steps that can be taken to pave the bumpy road of talks between Iran and America”.

“Iran had showed its openness to dialogue in the past, particularly with the phone call between Rouhani and Trump's predecessor Barack Obama in 2013,” he added.

“That dialogue was based on the idea of confidence-building measures and the nuclear deal was an achievement of this effort and it must be accepted," Aboutalebi went on to say.

US President Donald Trump said on Monday he would be willing to meet Iranian officials without preconditions to discuss how to improve ties after he pulled the United States out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, saying, “If they want to meet, we’ll meet.”

“I’d meet with anybody. I believe in meetings,” especially in cases where war is at stake, Trump said at a White House news conference when asked whether he was willing to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rowhani.
