Malaysian PM meets Iranian VP

Tehran (ISNA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Tuesday received Iranian Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs, Masoumeh Ebtekar at his office in Perdana Putra.

The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes during which Masoumeh Ebtekar delivered Iranian President’s message to Malaysian Prime Minister.

Ebtekar, who is also Special Envoy of the President of Iran, is on a one-day working visit to Malaysia as part of her tour to the Asia Pacific region.

Malaysia’s deputy Prime Minister who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister and the country’s Foreign Minister were also presented at the meeting.

In a statement, Malaysian Prime Minister’s office said Ebtekar's visit would further strengthen the ties between the leaders of both countries, especially so with the appointment of Mahathir as the seventh Prime Minister.

Iran is Malaysia’s fourth largest trading partner in the West Asia region with trade value between the two countries amounting to RM4.52 billion last year, an increase of 61.2 per cent compared to RM2.81 billion in 2016.

Iranian President Dr. Hassan Rouhani had an official visit to Malaysia in 2016.
