Iran’s Jaberi Ansari meets ICRC’s operations coordinator for Middle East

Tehran (ISNA) - The senior advisor to Iran’s foreign minister in political affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari met with visiting operations coordinator for the Near and Middle East of ICRC (the International Committee of the Red Cross) Valérie Petitpierre in Tehran.

During the meeting, the officials discussed humanitarian aspects of the crises in Syria and Yemen and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation between Iran and Red Cross on the matter.

Pointing to the bitter experience of Iranian nation and government in the course of the 1980-88 war imposed by Saddam’s regime affected many bereaved families, Mr. Jaberi Ansari said, “The issue of prisoner swap and the exchange of bodies in Syria is a humanitarian issue of prime importance for the Islamic Republic of Iran and it is at the top of our priorities to resolve the crisis in Syria”.

Mentioning to the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen, he stressed that Iran is fully ready to provide all kinds of help to the International Committee of Red Cross to alleviate the pains of the people of the war-ravaged countries of the region.

Valérie Petitpierre, for her part, appreciated Iran for helping to solve humanitarian issues in the crises in Syria and Yemen and emphasized that the International Committee of Red Cross is ready to cooperate with Tehran in these fields.
