In a meeting with Russian FM;

Russia’s official stance on JCPOA very promising: Zarif

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Monday.

During the meeting in Moscow, Mr. Zarif said, “Opposing international regulations and agreements have turned into a habit for the US government and the recent dangerous move of Washington toward al-Quds showed that the global community needs to protect the international laws and regulations”.

He added, “Iran has decided to give a chance for diplomacy on preserving the nuclear deal after the US withdrawal. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is based on a balance between the commitments of the sides including Iran, Europe and the United States and by the US withdrawal the balance will collapse and we must see how the interests of the Iranian people can be protected in this situation”.

“I had very positive negotiations with Beijing on Sunday and I’m so glad that had also the opportunity to hold a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister. After Moscow, I will travel to Brussels on May 15 to hold meetings with the foreign ministers of France, Germany, and Britain, as well as EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini to discuss the accord,” Mr. Zarif went on to say.

According to Mr. Zarif, the purpose of the negotiations is to guarantee Iranian nation’s interests in the framework of JCPOA.

He also stated that Russia’s official stance on JCPOA is very promising.
