Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs announced that British government has expressed its regret and officially apologized for the attack on Iranian embassy in London.

“In the case of the attack on Iranian embassy, the British government had failed to take measures in order to prevent the attack from taking place. On the other hand the British government failed to put an end to the raid much earlier, while it lasted for more than two hours,” Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday on the sidelines of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.

“We are pursuing these issues as well as the trial of the perpetrators with the British government,” said Araghchi, adding, “The British government has expressed its regrets and officially apologized for the incident”.

“British government has also vowed to increase the security of the Iranian embassy, which is already done and currently police forces have been deployed in front of the embassy and the process of trial of the attackers is underway,” he went on to say.

Pointing to the attack on the Iranian ambassador’s residence in Vienna, Araghchi said, “We at the Foreign Ministry are seriously pursuing the security of our embassies and we have had several phone calls with European countries in this regard”.
