Zarif stresses on strengthening Iran-Pakistan cooperation


Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks with his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Muhammad Asif, emphasizing on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, cultural and security fields.

At the head of a political and economic delegation, Mr. Zarif traveled to Pakistan to hold talks with Pakistani officials.

During Monday meeting with Pakistani foreign minister, Zarif urged to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of political, economic, cultural and security and said, “It is necessary that Iran and Pakistan as two friends and neighbors with common borders have strong cooperation to secure their borders and prevent the infiltration of terrorists”.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif, for his part, stressed on improving the two countries’ relations and said, “We are ready to improve our cooperation in political and economic fields. We want the stable borders for the two countries”.

As both sides honoring the 70th  year of relations, the foreign ministers also exchanged their views about different issues including helping the peace process in Afghanistan, improving the banking and energy cooperation, providing power supply to Pakistan by Iran, cooperation and conection between Chabahar and Gwadar ports, developing border markets and international issues, the Islamic world issues, creating more facilities for pilgrims to travel to Mashhad, multilateral cooperation especially economic one aimed at contributing to stability and peace in the region, fighting against terrorism and radical groups and drug smugglers.
