Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Parliament's General Director for International Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian emphasized European countries can help bring stability and prevent violence and extremism by taking distance from US wrong policies.

During a meeting with former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema in Tehran on Wednesday, Hossein Amir Abdollahian stressed that Iran and Italy have always had positive and growing relations.

“There are lots of opportunities in various fields of political, economy and commercial such as parliamentary communication that Iran and Italy can develop their cooperation,” he said.

“There is a lot of concern in the region that can be solved through political dialogues to pave the way for bringing stability and peace to the region,” Amir Abdollahian added.

“The US policy of overt and covert support for the terrorist groups and its wrong assessment of the regional developments have prolonged instability in the Middle-East and North Africa and cause its spread to other regions,” the Iranian official went on to say.

Massimo D'Alema, for his part, said that the establishment of peace and security in the region is impossible without the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stressing that Iran plays vital role in the region.

“US policies in regional and international issues are worrying and the will not help the peace and stability of the world,” he said.
