Iran’s missile capability is not threatening: defense minister

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian defense minister emphasized that the country’s missile capability didn’t threaten friends, neighbors and other countries and it has defensive use to confront just with specific and planned threats and its range, altitude and its precision are defined accordingly.

Addressing the Second Tehran Security Conference, Iranian defense minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said, “The Western Asia region has become more complicated and more harmful. This complication and insecurity in the region is because of interventions and presence of cross-regional powers that have deliberately created fake rivalries between the countries of the region, despite the fact that some statesmen in Western Asia have been deceived and their gullibility has contributed to mayhem and unrest in the region”.

“Terrorism and internal conflicts are the main problems of the region. These problems are stemmed from imperialism, cross-regional powers’ interventions and occupation as in the case of occupation of Palestine backed by the US support,” he added.

“Regional countries have high capacity for cooperation and coexistence. We believe bringing security to the region is possible with the active presence of the regional countries in the security issue,” general Hatami continued.

“We also believe that without cooperation of regional countries, it will be very difficult to overcome and manage the challenges of the region and it requires all the countries of the region to rely on internal capacity not the foreign forces,” he said.

Referring to the US behavior in regard to the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), general Hatami insisted, “With such a behavior, US proved to the world that is not trustworthy”.

“Iran’s compliance with JCPOA proved our country’s goodwill to the world but Americans proved that they are untrustworthy and unchangeable,” he went on to say.
