Iranian, Russian Chiefs of General Staff meet in Tehran

Tehran (ISNA) - The Chief of General Staff for Iranian Armed Forces General Mohammad Bagheri held talks with his Russian counterpart in Tehran on Wednesday.

During the meeting, General Bagheri and the Chief of the General Staff for Russian Armed Forces and first deputy defense minister General Valery Gerasimov discussed regional issues, fighting terrorism and supporting resistance front.

“There is a good military cooperation between Iran and Russia and of course there are many areas for expanding the cooperation,” General Bagheri said.

He also hoped to have a meeting with his Russian counterpart in Moscow in the near future.

During the meeting, General Valery Gerasimov has also voiced satisfaction over the current level of defense and military cooperation between the two countries.

“During the visit to Tehran, I would like to discuss the current situation in Syria, as well as the areas for further military and technical cooperation between Iran and Russia,” he said.

At the meeting, the new defense diplomacy of Tehran and Moscow was discussed by two sides.

They have also exchanged views about fighting terrorism, supporting resistance front and joint management and guidance of the defensive and security scene of the region in order to fighting the interference of trans-regional powers.
