Tehran (ISNA) - Construction of a wall on the Turkish-Iranian border will be finished until the winter of 2017, the Turkish media reported.

The wall will be built in the Turkish provinces of Agri and Igdir, trend news agency reported.

In total, the wall’s length will be 143.8 kilometers.

The wall’s width is two meters and its height is three meters.

Construction of the wall is aimed at boosting Turkey’s security by keeping out smugglers and stopping infiltration by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in June that his country plans to build walls along its borders with Iraq and Iran, similar to the one being erected along the 911-kilometer frontier with Syria.

An informed source at the Iranian Foreign Ministry said a day later that Turkey must keep Iran updated on any construction of a wall along the two countries’ border.
