Tehran (ISNA) – The head of the strategic research center of Iran’s Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati underlined that Tehran counted on China’s international support on the Syrian issue.

In a meeting with China's Special Envoy to Syria Xie Xiaoyan in Tehran, Velayati praised China’s position on Syria and the West Asian region saying “we count on the international support of China for the objectives of the Syrian government and people”.

Referring to the growth in collaborations between the two sides, Velayati reiterated that regional cooperation between Iran and China had to match up with their bilateral ties.

“Exchanging views on bilateral, regional and international issues is a natural occurrence and existing relations will hopefully experience further development,” he said.

"Cooperation on Syria creates abundant capacities for mutual cooperation," he added.

For his part, Xie Xiaoyan said, “During the visit, the Iranian and Chinese parties will exchange views on bilateral, regional and international issues particularly the Syrian issue”.

“Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity should be protected and respected and it is necessary that different countries carry out the real fighting against terrorists,” he added.
