Zarif heads for Algeria

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Tehran for Algeria on Sunday.

Algeria is Zarif’s first destination during the two-day visit to three North African countries.

"In the visit which is in response to official invitations of Algerian, Mauritian and Tunisian governments, Zarif meets the head of states as well as his counterparts," said Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi.

The visits are aimed at boosting mutual relations and expanding the ties between Iran and the African countries, as well as discussing the developments of the region, including Syria and the Persian Gulf, according to the spokesman.

"Developments in the region necessitate solidarity among Muslim countries in the face of ill-wishers and those who want to see them divided, added Ghasemi.
